How To Start Meditation
When I tell people I meditate I always hear the same thing. “I need to meditate but I don’t know how!” Or the ever popular “I think too much to meditate.”
Meditation is not something that comes naturally. Like everything it takes practice and consistency to get better at it.
First thing first is to get comfortable in a quiet area where you won’t be disturbed (that includes turning off your phone).
You can turn on calming music or sit in silence, I recommend music your first few times to keep you focused and to keep time.
Once you’re comfortable start deep breathing, in through the nose out through the mouth. Do this 5 times. On the 5th exhale close your eyes.
Begin counting your breaths til you reach 10. 1 inhale, 2 exhale, 3 inhale 4 exhale and so on. Repeat 5 times.
Without counting simply focus on your breaths. Feel your body relax, its all about focusing inward on your self and calming your mind.
And it’s OK if your mind wanders when you notice your mind trailing off just bring it back, focus on your breaths. Relax your muscles starting with the hands, down to the arms, the fingers, all the way down to the toes.
Once you’ve reached your toes start counting your breath again. 1 in 2 out and so on. Til you reach 10.
Take 2 deep breaths counting till 5 for inhale 5 for exhaling l. On your last exhale open your eyes and relax for a minute or two before resuming your day.
Do this for 10 days and you’ll see a difference in your mood, your spirit will lighten and you’ll be able to think and process information clearly.
